Architectural Design 2
Here's my projects done throughout this module
Project 1 - Diagramming Architectural Principles
As the first project of the semester, we were given the task to learn from precedent studies of some interesting architecture that have been designed by great architects about the architectonics they used to create interesting form and space from different means. For example, planes, solids, lines.
Precedent Study: Coco Art Villas, Costa Rica.
So we have a list of architectures to be chose and we were allocated with an architecture from Costa Rica: the Coco Art Villas that situated on a slope of the hills that facing the Pacific Ocean. Here are some of the works we had made to figure out the design concepts and thinking behind the architecture.
Project 2 - Designing with Architectural Principles and Materiality
Proceeding into the second project, from concepts we learned from previous project about doing accurate and detailed precedent study, now we were given a site at Taman Botanical Garden Shah Alam to adapt the design principles we learned in previous project to transform it into the suitable ones that fits our site smoothly, we got to explore and generate interesting spaces and forms
Project 2 - Designing with Architectural Principles and Materiality
Some notable progress and wonderful moments with my group members.
Final Project - Designing with Architectural Principles, Materiality, Context and User (Integrated with Building Construction & Material Module) Individual Project
Coming to the final project of the year, which to me is a tough one, where more challenging stuff are coming in. In response to the architecture, we have designed in Project 2, we have given a task to design a hideout retreat, or an escape for a group of people of four with preset roles (cyclist/baker/artist etc.). For me, I have chosen my target is a family who came to seek for a short trip where they can share their moments among themselves.
Final Project - Designing with Architectural Principles, Materiality, Context and User (Integrated with Building Construction & Material Module) Individual Project
Since this project is integrated with another module (Building Construction and Materials), I have to take in the consideration of the materials I need to use to create a space with good sensory while hitting the demands of the client, which also brought about the suitability of the texture of the materials I have decided to use. In this project, I have chosen reinforced concrete and steel as my supporting materials, timber as the materials for aesthetic concerns (extension of building).
Final Project - Designing with Architectural Principles, Materiality, Context and User (Integrated with Building Construction & Material Module) Individual Project
Presentation board.
Reflection
Although I am satisfied with the design I have come up as representative for what I learned in my first year of architectural design, I still have a lot to improve which I think the most crucial one is not having a decisive mind to emphasize the design which my final design ended up too complicated for people to understand my concept.
And for another problem I realized is my drawing still need to improve more which had to improve with the aim of helping people to understand my concept at first glance.
